Founded by well known educational author and English trainer, Andrew Hammond, English in Prep Schools (English iPS) is the first interactive educational resource site for teachers, pupils and parents in the Prep school community.

English iPS actively supports the teaching and learning of English in Preparatory schools across the UK. Our core aims are:

  • to provide support for teachers, parents and pupils in the Prep school community;
  • to uphold rigorous standards in preparatory English teaching and learning;
  • to promote creative and innovative practices that prepare children for the modern world.

Whether you are a teacher or a parent, English iPS can offer you support, guidance, training and a wealth of creative ideas, so that you may help your children to find success and enjoyment in Prep school English. We offer INSET courses, workshops, mentoring, tutoring and a range of downloadable resources for sale.

This is both an exciting and daunting time to be teaching English.  We invite you to join our online community, as we strive to maintain the traditions of a Prep school education, whilst rising to the challenges of the ever-changing, multi-informational, multi-media world around us.

Teachers who have used English iPS services have said:

 'The Year Eight Poetry Workshop was fantastic! The presentation was well prepared, entertaining and clearly differentiated, allowing all of our pupils to gain a great deal from the session. I'm sure the pupils enjoyed hearing a new voice and experiencing a different perspective, while the workshop activities ensured that they were able to take an active part in the session and practise what they'd learnt. We'll definitely be using English-IPS again!"

                                              Head of English, Felsted School, Essex

'The online mentoring was a fantastic opportunity to talk to a real expert about issues which were directly related to my department and my school.  I left buzzing with new ideas and resources and, above all, such enthusiasm for my subject.'

                                       Head of English, Hoe Bridge School, Surrey

'Thank you very much for all your hard work. The INSET went down very well. You managed to hit exactly the right note with the teachers, who were pleased to be able to reflect on work that they are doing in this area already, as well as get them thinking about how to move their responsibility for literacy forward.'

                 Head of English, University College Junior School, London

'I think that this website is a fantastic idea - especially for someone like me who is fresh out of coordinating English in the state system! It will be great to be able to share ideas and views with people who aren't necessarily following the revised framework for an hour each day!'

                                         Head of English, Staffordshire

'Years 7 & 8 pupils enjoyed a stimulating Poetry Workshop presented by Andrew Hammond. All the necessary skills and strategies required for ISEB CE were presented in an interesting and inspirational way. The workshop is incredibly beneficial and Andrew has certainly secured an annual visit to our school.
                                              Head of English, Barrow Hills' School, Surrey
